What
is tumescent liposuction?
Answer
Tumescent liposuction is the safest and most commonly used form of liposuction
available today. This procedure limits blood loss during and after the surgery,
eliminates the need for general anesthesia, and allows for a faster recovery
time.
The term “tumescent” refers to the large volumes of fluid injected
into the area to be treated, causing a plump appearance to the skin. This
fluid, often three times as much in volume as the amount of fat to be removed,
consists of lidocaine (an anesthetic), epinephrine (used to constrict capillaries)
and saline. Because of the local anesthetic involved, no general anesthesia
is needed and the effects can cover any post-surgical discomfort for up to
a day following the procedure. Typically, regular Tylenol is sufficient to
alleviate any other post-operative pain or discomfort.
Is
there a way to predict how your nose will look after surgery?
Answer
There is no way to completely predict how your nose will appear after your
nose job, but there are things you and your plastic surgeon can do to ensure
you are not surprised at your results:
• Have frank discussions with your plastic surgeon about what will and
will not be changed.
If you aren’t happy with your appearance after surgery, discuss your
concerns with your plastic surgeon and the possibility of a revision nose
job. Sometimes being patient and allowing your nose to heal (for up to year),
changes the appearance of your nose.
How
long does it take after surgery for your nose to appear normal again without
any remained scarring or bruising?
Answer
I had my nose re-shaped when I was 19, I am now 22 and my nose still is swelled
up most days when I wake up, but the swelling goes down as day approaches
night! Apparently it takes years for the swelling to go down completely but
with bruises and scars, a few months after surgery they shouldn't be seen.
Swelling of the nose is the major issue that people complain about and time
is the answer.
Is
Botox or a face lift better?
Answer
It depends on how invasive a procedure you would prefer. Botox is injected
into your face with a needle to paralyze specific muscles on your face, to
reduce the appearance of wrinkles. A face lift makes incisions in your skin
to gently pull and lift the wrinkles out. Face lifts require anesthesia and
significant cutting/stitching, but the effects last longer. Botox is a simple
procedure without anesthetic, but require visits more often to keep up the
results.
What
is eyelid surgery?
Answer
Eyelid surgery is also known by Blepharoplasty. This procedure involves removing
excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Most people
who opt for this wish to look younger by correcting sagging or drooping eyelids
and puffy bags below the eyes. Often these ailments may make you look more
tired or older than you really are.
Eyelid surgery can take up to 2 hours to complete, depending on the amount
of work being done.. Most often, it will be performed in the surgeon’s
office on an out-patient basis. Very rarely does eyelift surgery require a
hospital stay. During the surgery, incisions are made along the crease of
the upper eyelid and the lash line of the lower eyelid, excess fat, skin and
muscle are removed, and the incisions are closed using very fine sutures.
While eyelid surgery can make you look younger and rejuvenated, it can not
eliminate crow’s feet and other wrinkles, nor will it erase dark circles
or improve sagging eyebrows. It is possible to incorporate more than one surgery
in the eye area, however, to increase the chances of a dramatic change. It
is important to have realistic expectations in relation to any cosmetic surgery,
and these expectations should be discussed openly and honestly with your surgeon.
